The design for MIT’s Hayden Library reflects intersections of disciplines, people and collections. A pair of two-story volumes—one glass and one wood—cross the Commons supporting digital & analogue research. The design transforms a modern era library with an innovative study Porch and green Courtyard. Flexible IT infrastructure and collaboration areas defined by movable curtains and furniture enable students to reconfigure spaces to fit their needs. The LEED Gold renovation creates a new model for 21st c research, & provides upgrades to building systems, conserving water, energy and carbon.
